One of our Classics CB 13 is a magnificent peak on the Dhaka glacier that is visible from Chandertal. CB stands for Chandra Bhaga Range. CB 13 is a popular option with climbers who want to enhance their mountaineering skills. The approach is from Batal from where you can see the immense Bara Shigri glacier across the valley. The nearest town is Manali. Depending on what season you choose to climb the peak the grade can vary between a PD and a AD. CB 13 is magnificent jagged peak on the Dhaka glacier that is visible from Chandertal.
We begin our CB 13 expedition approach to the peak from Manali. We drive to Batal on the Manali Kaza road. The trek to the base camp from the road head is a short day’s walk through gradual terrain to reach the snout of the South Dhaka glacier. The Base Camp, set on a rocky patch near the glacier gives great views of CB 12 and CB 14.
The CB 13 expedition climb can be classified as a PD/AD/D on the Alpine Grade we will need to do some rock, ice, and mixed climbing depending on the season and the snow conditions. Between Camp 1 and Camp 2, one can see the debris of the 1968 IAF plane-crash strewn all over.
Arrive in Manali in the morning and check into your hotel. Walk around town and orient yourself to your surroundings. Final gear check and prepare for the climb ahead. Overnight in a hotel.
We leave Manali early in the morning over the Rohtang Pass and leave the Leh Highway at Gramphu to make our way along the Chandra River to Batal.
We start the trek with a climb up the Suthadi Nullah valley and make our way to the camp at Samudra Tapu.
