Duration: Multiple hours

As we venture deeper into the heart of the Himalayas, our focus turns to intensive training and honing our mountaineering skills in the winter environment. Over the next 10 days, we will be immersed in a comprehensive program that covers various aspects of snow craft, ice craft, glacier travel, self-arrest techniques, and crevasse rescue.
Acclimatization remains a key priority during this period. Our experienced instructors ensure that we gradually adapt to the high altitude and extreme weather conditions, enabling us to perform at our best while ensuring our safety.
The program curriculum encompasses a range of essential mountaineering skills tailored specifically for the winter environment. Through hands-on training and practical exercises, we will become proficient in snow and ice craft, mastering techniques such as building snow and ice anchors, executing efficient belay systems, and navigating glaciers with confidence.
The training sessions are designed to instill confidence and proficiency, equipping us with the necessary tools to face the challenges of winter mountaineering. Under the guidance of our skilled instructors, we will learn essential self-arrest techniques to ensure our safety on steep slopes, as well as effective crevasse rescue methods that can make all the difference in emergency situations.
In addition to the training, we have an exciting opportunity to put our newly acquired skills to the test. Weather and conditions permitting, we will attempt a thrilling ascent of a nearby unnamed 6000m peak. This adventure will serve as the culmination of our training, providing a real-world application of the techniques and knowledge we have gained throughout the course.
During this ascent, we will travel independently and unsupported, forming small teams that will navigate the winter terrain, set up camps, and undertake the challenges of high-altitude climbing. Rest assured, our experienced guides will be there every step of the way, ensuring our safety and providing guidance as needed.
This expedition-style experience not only reinforces our technical skills but also fosters a sense of self-reliance and teamwork. It is an opportunity to test our abilities in a real-world scenario, where decision-making, camp management, and effective communication are paramount.
As we embark on this thrilling adventure, the camaraderie within our group grows stronger, forming bonds forged by shared experiences and the pursuit of a common goal. Together, we push the boundaries of our physical and mental capabilities, gaining a deeper understanding of the mountain environment and our own potential.

A sturdy and spacious backpack or rucksack with a capacity of 70 liters is essential for carrying your personal belongings. This larger backpack will be loaded onto horses and transported to the base camp. Ensure that your backpack is durable and equipped with comfortable straps and compartments to accommodate your gear.

Small Backpack (20-30 Liters)

For your daily activities during the course, you’ll need a smaller backpack with a capacity of 20-30 liters. This backpack will be your go-to for hiking and accessing the training area. It should be lightweight, compact, and have enough room to carry your essentials for the day.

Clothing

Pack appropriate clothing for the mountain environment, including warm hiking pants, shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and a wicking layer to manage moisture. It’s recommended to have multiple layers that can be easily added or removed depending on the weather conditions. Ensure you have comfortable hiking shoes that provide good traction and support.

Essential Accessories

Don’t forget to pack essential accessories such as a headlight with extra batteries, sunglasses, suntan lotion, toiletries, and a camera to capture the memorable moments of your mountaineering journey. An insulated water bottle or a 750ml flask is crucial to stay hydrated throughout the course.
